Bonne Année! Happy New Year!

Bonne Année! Happy New Year!

Wow! I can’t believe the holidays are over and a new year is beginning…again. Soon we will mark our one year anniversary but before we talk about the future, I want tell you what we have done in the last few weeks.

During December we enjoyed serving the Holiday Tasting Menu and our Holiday to-go items.  Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve were really busy and really fun!  We feel honored that so many of you chose to spend these special occasions with your family and friends at Philippe Restaurant.

Now we are getting ready for the many events of 2012. To start off, we will have a wine dinner on January 25th that will be hosted by Vanessa Treviño-Boyd, our Sommelier.  She will be presenting wines from the Bordeaux region.  We are also talking about special items to serve for Valentine’s Day as well as some Texan classics to serve during the weeks of Rodeo. You can be sure that they will have a French Cowboy twist to them!  The list goes on and on but I can’t give everything away too soon!!

So, along with the New Year come New Year’s resolutions…  And like many of you, I am making some resolutions myself. One thing I’d like to do more of is get out in the community and see you outside of the restaurant – on my time off of course. (Oh that must be another resolution: take some time off!!)

Anyway, I was out in the community recently at the Central Market Cooking School.  In December, they invited me to do a cooking demonstration at their Houston location in association with the Green Beans and Guacamole Cookbook. I had the chance to share the stage with Randy Evans of Haven and David Cordua of America’s. We, among others, were featured in the cookbook along with the recipes we presented. I chose to do the Crispy Rice Paper Salmon. You can find the recipe and cooking instructions here but check out the video for a little more explanations on the technique.

I look forward to seeing you soon…maybe at Rodeo – I’m participating in Uncorked Best Bites Competition!!

French lesson of the day: Meilleurs vœux pour une bonne et heureuse année 2012!

Translation: Best wishes for a good and happy New Year 2012!
